Educate & Innovate

I fell in love with linguistics before I knew what it was… And I’ve always had a knack for marketing.

My Story

I was always fascinated by language. Most likely it was my environment that facilitated this interest, being that I was born into a multicultural community in the Bay Area of Northern California.

Never did a day go by where I didn’t hear at least 3 languages being spoken around me. I was privileged to have grown up with 2 of some of the most important international languages; English and Spanish. Vietnamese, Tagalog, and Punjabi are some of the other languages I’d hear regularly but only ever picked up a few words here and there. Nonetheless some of these words and expressions opened the doors of the world of linguistics for me.

I’ll never forget when I asked my friend Jennifer to teach me how to say “I love you” in Vietnamese. That day, she explained to me that the expression changes depending on who is the speaker and who is the listener. It was fascinating to basically hear out loud that not all languages work the same way.

As time went on, I learned to make these sort of comparisons between English and Spanish. Then, Spanish and Portuguese, then English and French etc. I fell in love with linguistic differences and similarities and loved to analyze any new language that crossed my path.

My Mission

Today I’m the proud owner of a Master’s Diploma in Language Sciences with a concentration in Sociolinguistics. I’m glad I followed my passion and get to work in interdisciplinary fields that I love. Over the course of my career, I’ve gotten to work in public and private education, start-ups in the tech industry, retail and agricultural.

Geographic and academic History

  • I was born in California and spent time in Louisiana, Puerto Rico, and Ohio as a child.

  • 2006: I started my Bachelor’s program at San Jose State University where I studied Spanish and Linguistics.

  • 2009: I studied abroad for a year at La Universidad de Granada in Spain.

  • 2011: I attended a month long linguistics conference hosted by the Linguistic Society of America where I focused on Language Contact, Code Switching, Syntax and Language Learning Program analysis. Then, I moved to Madrid, Spain in the fall of 2011 where I worked as an ESL teacher for 2 years.

  • 2013: I took on a teaching position role in Saint Witz, France (Paris region). In winter of 2015, I entered the private sector where I worked for the famous French ridesharing company, BlaBlaCar, where I worked in member relations, community management, and website localization as the company was expanding into Latin America, This is also where I first stepped my toes into the Marketing Field.

  • 2015: I commenced my master’s program at L’Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris 3, where I continued to explore my passion for Linguistics and Marketing. In France master’s students have the option of pursing an academic or professional master’s program and I chose the professional program. During the program, I completed 2 internships in Marketing and wrote my thesis on the marketing of foreign languages. This experience was invaluable and would later aid me in my later in leadership roles in marketing.

  • 2020 - Present:

To start out 2020 the right way, I decided to make my way back to my homeland, California.
